Wiñaymarca Archipelago
WIÑAYMARCA ARCHIPELAGO
DESCRIPTION:
The Wiñaymarca Archipelago has beautiful sandy and pebble beaches. Its inhabitants still preserve their ancestral customs and fishing is one of their main activities.
The archipelago is made up of eight islands: Iscaya, Lloje, Kkhana, Pataguata, Yuspique, Anapia, Suana and Kkhaño and two islets: Huatakaaño and Huatasuana. All of them are grouped in an extension of 18 kilometers.
Yuspique Island, the largest of the archipelago, is used by the Anapia community to raise vicuñas.
LOCATION:
It is located in the department of Puno in Yunguyo 134 kilometers from the city of Puno and is made up of a group of islands. The lake of this archipelago passes the border line between Peru and Bolivia.
HOW TO GET TO WAIÑAYMARCA ARCHIPELAGO?
It is accessed by crossing the Tiquina Strait from Bolivia. First you have to go to the port of Punta Hermosa which is located on Lake Menor 16 kilometers from Yunguyo, there are usually boats that leave from Punta Hermosa to Anapia Island, the main island of Wiñaymarca archipelago. From very early in the morning, they have an average trip of one hour to reach the island.
