MICULLA ARCHAEOLOGICAL COMPLEX

 

DESCRIPTION:

Miculla petroglyphs depict a variety of figures and symbols, including animals, people, geometric figures, and abstract designs. These representations are of great interest to archaeologists and anthropologists, as they provide clues to the life, beliefs and practices of the cultures that inhabited the region in ancient times.

The archaeological site of Miculla is located in a stunning natural setting, surrounded by mountains and desert landscapes, making it a popular tourist destination for those interested in history and archaeology. In addition to petroglyphs, the area also has archaeological remains of stone structures and agricultural terraces, which show the skill and organization of the ancient civilizations that inhabited the region.

LOCATION:

Located in the region of Tacna, southern Peru. This complex is composed of a series of petroglyphs, which are engravings on rocks made by ancient pre-Inca civilizations, dating from approximately 3,000 years ago.

WHAT ARE PETROGLYPHS?

They are engravings in low relief on rocks using metal or stone instruments and working techniques of pressure, scratching and percussion. There are scenes representing a hunt, dances, confrontations with bow and arrow, as well as

n bow and arrow, also carrying bundles, sexual scenes and rituals of worship to water, cosmos and earth.

All human figures are depicted distinctly, gender is represented by prominent male sexual organs and inverted v-shaped female organs.
